Premium South Carolina State Flags: Authentic Design & Superior Durability
Buy the South Carolina State Flag Made in USA and fly your Palmetto State pride with a flag born on a Revolutionary War battlefield. In 1775, Colonel William Moultrie designed the original flag — indigo blue matching his troops' uniforms, white crescent matching their cap badges — and on June 28, 1776, his soldiers defended a palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the full force of the British fleet, inspiring the palmetto tree that completes the flag to this day.
Handcrafted from heavyweight 200-denier nylon with UV-resistant Solar Shield treatment, this outdoor South Carolina flag keeps the rich indigo blue field, the white palmetto tree, and the white crescent vivid and sharp through Atlantic weather, coastal salt air, intense summer UV, and the high humidity that destroys cheap imported flags within a single Carolina season.
Every flag is FMAA certified — guaranteeing 100% American materials and labor — and features corrosion-resistant brass grommets, a reinforced polyester canvas heading, and a 4-point needle lock-stitch fly hem engineered to resist fraying year after year.
Available in four sizes (3x5, 4x6, 5x8, and 6x10), this heavy duty South Carolina state flag ships fast and is backed by a 30-day, no-questions-asked money-back guarantee. Order your Made in USA South Carolina flag today.
South Carolina Flag History
Adopted: January 28, 1861
South Carolina Flag Design: White palmetto tree on an indigo field. The canton contains a white crescent.
The General Assembly adopted the current version of South Carolina’s flag on January 28, 1861. This version added the Palmetto tree to the original design by Colonel William Moultrie in 1775 for use by South Carolina troops during the Revolutionary War. Colonel Moultrie chose a blue color that matched the color of their uniforms and a crescent that reproduced the silver emblem worn on the front of their caps.
The palmetto tree symbolized Colonel Moultrie's heroic defense of the palmetto-log fort on Sullivan's Island against the attack of the British fleet on June 28, 1776.
By statute, the flag shall be displayed "upon the inside of every public school building in this State so that all school children shall be instructed in proper respect for the flag," and daily except in rainy weather, from a staff upon the State House and from a staff upon each County Courthouse. The State Flag is also to be displayed in accordance with rules set by the State Superintendent of Education, on the grounds of educational institutions supported in whole or part, by funds derived from the State. It is also prescribed that any person who mutilates, injures or desecrates the State Flag, wherever displayed, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of not more than $100 or by imprisonment for not more than 30 days or both.
THE STATE PLEDGE TO THE FLAG OF SOUTH CAROLINA

How long should a flag last?
This is the most common question asked in the industry and the most difficult to answer. No two flags will wear the same due to weather conditions and how often the flag is flown. Our flags offer the best stitching and highest quality materials to get your flag off to a great start.
How can I prolong the life of my flag?
Do not hang a flag where the wind will whip it against rough surface, such as tree branches, wires or cables or the outside of your home or building. Inspect your flags regularly for signs of wear. Repair any minor rips or tears right away this can be mended easily with a sewing machine or sewing kit. Keep the surface of the pole free of dirt, rust or corrosion that could damage or stain your flag.
Can I wash or launder my flag?
We recommend that you hand-wash your flag with mild soap, rinse thoroughly and air dry. You can also use a dry cleaning service.
Is it okay to fly my flag during heavy winds or inclement weather?
Exposing your flag to rain, wind, snow or high winds will shorten the life of your flag considerably. If you leave your flag exposed to the elements, it will greatly reduce the life of your flag.
Can I fly other flags on the same pole as a USA Flag?
Yes, as long as your pole is large enough to support the weight of the flags. The USA Flag must always fly at the top. The flag underneath should be at least one foot lower and be one size smaller than the USA Flag. Flags of other countries are not to be flown beneath the USA Flag.
How do I properly dispose of a flag?
If your flag is significantly faded, torn or tattered it is time to retire your flag. Your flag should be retired privately in a dignified manner. In addition, many local community organizations have flag disposal centers that will dispose of your flag for you.
